Master of Pasta Barilla, Japanese Keita Yuge, wins the World Pasta Championship

After 2 days of competition, it was the representative of Japan who won against the 13 other candidates competing at the Master of Pasta Barilla, which was held for the first time outside Italy, in Paris.

It is thanks to its reinvented signature dish, the “Penne Gorgonzola Profumo Giapponese” that the Japanese candidate managed to win the 8th edition of the World Pasta Championship. It’s the 2and Japanese to win this competition in eight years with his recipe with oysters and Japanese infusion “Sake, Sansho, Yuzu”. A great victory for this multifaceted young chef and connoisseur of Italian cuisine. Passed by prestigious tables all over the world, from Guy Savoy in Paris, via Inno in Tokyo or Quintocanot in Osaka then more recently Solome 2007 in Yokohama, he had already finished in the final of the 2017 edition. therefore, amply deserved in this two-day competition which pitted 14 young chefs under the age of 35, including 3 women pre-selected from nearly 100 applications.

A 50th anniversary for France placed under the sign of art: #TheArtOfPasta

For its first edition outside Italy, the competition had set the bar high for this 50and anniversary of the brand in France. Installed in the Pavillon Cambon (Potel & Chabot) revisited as a real art gallery with an exhibition and paintings produced for the occasion by many artists, Barilla had chosen to give the floor to young international chefs under the watchful eye of a jury made up of Davide Oldani, Simone Zanoni, the French chef Amandine Chaignot and the Italian architect-designer Paola Navone. Marked on two tests, the cooks first produced, on Electrolux equipment in particular (partner of the operation), a signature recipe “Toile blanche” before composing a “well-being” dish during the “Chef work” from the large collection of Barilla pasta and “good for you” ingredients.

During this championship, the 250 guests were also able to enjoy a conference on cooking and aesthetics, as well as savor numerous artistic exhibitions celebrating the intimate link between the Italian pasta maker and the art… of sublimate the products in its communication.
